I am sorry to report the death of one of our members, Dick Mortimer, who is well known in Kent Pétanque circles. He passed away at Maidstone Hospital on 25 August 2011, at the age of 86. Dick first started playing pétanque, with his wife Carol, about 35 years ago and founded Mote Park Pétanque Club. He also went on to become a Vice-President of the South East Region in the early 1980's. He was a founder member of the British Queen Pétanque Club and the Maidstone Pétanque Club as well as playing for the Redstart and in more recent years, joining his son, Brian, at Star Pétanque Club and most recently Walnut Tree Pétanque Club.
A funeral service will be held for Dick at Holy Trinity Church in Coxheath at 1.00pm and a cremation at Maidsone (Vinters Park) Crematorium at 2.00pm on Tuesday 13 September 2011.

Secretary, Walnut Tree Pétanque Club

The EPA Congress is on 16th July at the Hilton Garden Inn in Luton starting with an EGM to make a small constitutional change at 10.30.
We are able to send 12 delegates – any volunteers?
Is there anything we as a region want to propose?
The proposals have to be in by Thursday, so any suggestions and discussions need to be done quickly and by email.

You have probably received a renewal form from the EPA...
Annette Eggleton, Membership Secretary of the Kent Petanque Association, asks that you wait a few days until she has contacted clubs to advise them of the Association's preferred system.
If you need to use either the online system or use the EPA form directly please remember to include in your payment the £6.00 Kent Pétanque Association precept as this is not explicit on the EPA documentation.
#11/04 Posted 1st March 2011
As you are possibly aware now, the EPA is changing the membership system to an online version.

The Optimists was one of the 4 founding member clubs of the League back in 1977 and apart from a forced change of venue for a couple of years have been playing at the Kings Head Staplehurst since its inception.
The Optimists the division 3 team based at the Kings Head Staplehurst desperately need 3 or 4 new players in order to have enough members to compete in the Kent League this coming season. If you are an individual interested in joining us or if you currently play for a club that is prepared to let you play on loan with us for the coming season then please contact me urgently. You will be guaranteed a game on most weeks of the coming season. If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested please contact me without delay.

You may have received an email from the EPA regarding online renewal of membership for the coming season.
This is an evolving position and more information will be available in the next few weeks. However, I just wanted to contact you all to say that should any member, or club, not wish to renew using this method arrangements will be in place for subscription via me as Regional Membership Secretary as in previous years.
Exact details of how this will work are not yet available as I am awaiting more information from the EPA as to how the new system is designed to work. However, as soon as I have more concrete information I will be in touch.
If you, or your members, have any questions in the meantime feel free to email me, or call 020 8325 2742.

Requests, with dates, for your club's open competitions to be included in the KPA 2011 Calendar should be emailed to Andy Mills or Annette Eggleton or both by 11th February.
A copy of The EPA Draft Calendar for 2011 is available; KPA fixtures are not yet added but 3 of the 5 Qualifiers will be on the "Regional Days" and it is likely that one of the Qualifiers will also be the County Triples Championship.
Offers to host KPA competitions would also be appreciated.
