I have been playing petanque on and off for over 20 years, at various clubs including Amazon & Tiger, Seal and now at The George. As well as being President of the Kent Region I am a member of the EPA management committee, helping to ensure the views of the largest region within the sport are represented. If you have any comments or questions please either email or phone me.

I have played for the Villager PC for the last 13 years and I am currently the club chairman.

I succeeded Mark Cooter as the Secretary of the South East Region in February 1999 and was actively involved in its transition to the KPA.

My special interest has been the development of the links with the French pétanque district of Nord Maritime.

Although I rarely play competitively myself, I provide support and admin back up to those who are more active to enable them to play without distraction. I have held a licence for a few years now, first at Ightham and now at the George but if anyone catches me playing they can claim a lollipop!

Never having played the game until I built the first terrain at Hartley Country Club in 1992, I somehow got elected first chairman of the HCC Petanque Section, now the largest club in the region. Cricket (religion), badminton and football were my principal sports for many years but now I am very keen on petanque, being too ancient for the other games, and I hope to impart my enthuiasm to others in my new development role.

I have won Regional honours and I have represented the Region on several occasions. I am currently the President of the Kent League, the biggest petanque league in the UK

I started playing petanque in 1998 for the new team at the Bull’s Head, Chislehurst to help them get off the ground and to get me back in to circulation following the death of my wife.

I swore to Club Captain that I would never get deeply involved as I had with darts for many years and intended playing only when they were short!

However the bug bit deeply and the rest as they say is history, with my gaining two passions in the shape of petanque and my wife Barbara, whom I met again after 20 years, through playing petanque.

On moving house I changed teams to Tovil and am now the Club President.

Never one to sit on the sidelines I represented the club at the Region then at the 2001 League AGM volunteered to take on the jobs of League Secretary and Treasurer, roles I have continued to do since. I sought the formalisation of the league with the introduction of a written constitution and that has served us well. I also designed and wrote the league’s website and developed the use of email and the website as the principle means of communication.

Those functions I relinquished to Andy Mills following the merging of the site with the County.

I played a role in the devolvement of the BPA and the institution of Kent Petanque Association and was co-opted as the first National Secretary of the EPA though policy differences led to my resignation after 8 months.

My particular interest at the moment is development of the sport in Kent, particularly in establishing venues capable of hosting major tournaments.

I learnt my pétanque in the early 80s at Gravesend Rugby Club and still play for them in the Kent League. I served the old South East Region as Treasurer and President and also held National Office as Vice President Finance of the BPA. In that role I was instrumental in seeing through the reorganisation of our sport which saw the formation of the KPA in November 2004. As your Playing Officer I will be working to improve the playing standards, opportunities and facilities in Kent.

I was introduced to the game by Morton Almond in the early 1990s. I have played for Lordswood Petanque Club in the Kent and Maidstone and District Leagues on a weekly basis and in the occasional weekend competition, work commitments permitting, ever since.

I was appointed Honorary Secretary of the Lordswood Club shortly after joining and have carried out the duties of the post, apart from a short break, for some 12 years or so.

Having recently retired I am now engaged in raising money for further expansion of the pitches and facilities at Lordswood and promoting the game locally through schools and schemes.

I joined this Committee to help with the development of the game in the County and to represent my Club's interests at County level.

My son played Petanque at school and it was his teacher who pursuaded my wife and I to try the sport, this would be about 1988. At this time Maidstone Petanque Club had just installed new Pistes at the Bell Public House in Bredhurst.

We played there over one winter each week and the following spring we joined the newly formed Maidstone B team in the bottom Division of the Kent Petanque League.

We later formed the Moldavian Clog Dancers Petanque Club, playing at a number of venues until we joined Lordswood Petanque Club in the Mid 1990's.

For the last few years I have been the President of Lordswood P C with active involment in applications for funding for our development programme.

I have also been the Captain of Lordswood MCD team for the last 10 years or so.

I started playing in 1995 at The Fighting Cocks in Horton Kirby, tutored by the late John Clements. I moved clubs to Hartley in 2001 and again to The George in 2008. I still occasionally play at the Cocks and Hartley and partner with Nigel Mansell from the Cocks for competitions and Regionals as well as whenever we are France together. We represented South East (with Jean-Louis Guiot of Hartley) at Brean in 2004 and I was team manager for the Select squad in 2005 and the Kent Challenge squad in 2006 and 2007. I live in the shadow of my much better sons, Luke and Charles. Luke has represented Great Britain at Junior level and Charles has represented England as a Junior. Both are now Espoirs and my youngest son, Elliott is a rising Junior attending the Kent Academy.

I took over editorship of the Kent Pétanque Gazette from Mark Cooter in 2006 and I still run the Hartley website.
