Ten juniors turned up at The Villager, Vigo on Saturday 14th June for the second of this year's Kent Junior Pétanque Academy. Of the ten, three were regular Kent players Ben Littley, Josh Littley and Elliott Fribbens. Another regular player who attended for the coaching from Bill Weller, Mark Thorne and Richard King was Darren Flegg from New Ash Green. The remaining players were complete newcomers, Nathan Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Charlie Richards, Ben Thompson, Megan King and Eleanor Boys. Ben, whose father plays at Tovil, has joined the EPA and the Wilson brothers and Charlie Richards are interested in joining. The existing members were given their Academy tops.

The juniors enjoyed an hour of coaching, targeted at their skill levels, followed by two games of doubles in a melee format. Richard King and Charles Fribbens made up the numbers and Mark and Bill helped coach and advise the players. The melee results will be carried forwards to determine the KPA Academy champion for 2008. At the moment Josh Littley is in the lead with two wins and +17 points from Elliott Fribbens on two wins and +9 points.

The next Academy is at Hartley in 12th July from 10:30 to 13:00. Hopefully our new players will be there and will encourage even more to attend.
